So I've decided to create a new banner for It Speaks It Draws and use my mascots for it, I thought it would be nice to bring them back and draw them again,(it's been so long).

It's strange as commercial looking as they appear, with many many clear visible faults, I've really missed doodling them.

So I figured considering they are over a year old now (and I never celebrated their birth) making them my banner would be a nice gift.

Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes. (1983)

Back in the day children's films use to be genuinely frightening, which was great, one example is the Disney film Something Wicked This Way Comes, about two boys that battle with a strange evil entity personified as Mr Dark, he comes to town with his Pandemonium Carnival and seduces the towns people by fulfilling their deepest desires, the two boys know what Dark is really doing and set out to stop him. This film is so great I stopped drawing and just concentrated on the story.

Mr Dark and his Pandemonium Carnival is also one of the inspirations for Papa Lazarou of The League Of Gentlemen.

Now this show I absolutely love! Only one season made for NBC, it stars John Cassevetes( yes THE John Cassevetes) as a former Jazz saxophone player turned Private Eye. Cassevetes Staccato is incredibly cool, charming, kick and bad ass, I'm not sure why the show was cancelled, maybe poor ratings due to the dark nature of the show (it's incredibly bleak noir cases) but the music is out of this world, Theme tune is by Elmer Bernstein, and loads of episodes have guest musicians (ie.) John Williams of Star Wars fame. find this show and watch it. You'll "Never shake it once you dig it".

I witnessed a film that surpassed all my expectations, the 1987 masterpiece Hard Ticket To Hawaii, by Andy Sidaris, a film maker that has no sense of taste, the film is poorly acted, the action poorly staged, dire dialogue, shockingly unsexy gratuitous sex and nudity, it's extremely crass and offensive to women, yet I loved it. There is something almost naive and innocent in this film. Plus it has a Snake infected with Rat Cancer.

This is the most tackiest thing I've drawn, I went all out on it. These two are the pilots from the film, and yes they do wield nunchucks and ninja stars.
I dedicate this piece to a person who just loves Good Girl pin up Art...

While Toby and I attempted to recover from the previous night's party, we did a walk of shame to the park, found a spot and crashed, while trying to breath life into ourselves once more, I watched a guy doing Tai Chi ( it think it was that) I decided to try and do quick succession of drawings because he was never still. so basically each drawing here is an amalgam of different poses in one, so none of these are correct Tai chi poses. Still fun to do.

It's been just over a month now since I've come over to Valence, France and in my first week while staying at Elena and Toby's I started drawing this, then I got lazy, then busy, then in my spare time actually active! so now I've (kinda) finished it (didn't complete colouring and cleaning it up, I kind of like it this way) and posting it commemorate my first month in Valence...

It's also too small to read, I messed up the Photoshop settings when doing this. so If you're bored enough to want to read it, we'll meet up and I'll read it to ya, like a bedtime story. (In a non-creepy way)
There's also terrible spelling and grammar in it, so more apologies for that.

I don't know why I drew these or why I plan on drawing more, but I couldn't but notice the lack of male drawings on artists, animators etc blogs, and I follow a lot of blogs, I'm a blog whore. I admit, I'm a fan of drawing the female form as well,I draw girls all the time, in fact I tried to curb it in om=ne of my sketchbooks and failed. The female figure and the curves and contours seem to be so expressive, some artists can draw a woman in literally 3 strokes, I don't see that that often for male drawings.

But another thing that is getting so much more common is the "Pin Up" girl drawings, sometimes the girl would be doing a everyday activity (ie. brushing teeth or something) yet there's a air of sexuality, either in the pose or what she's wearing.

But that doesn't really explain where these drawings came from.

Well I did promise in my last entry that I will post more often (Get my money's worth out of this contraption!) So today as I wait for some feedback on a shot, I decided to try and get into the habit of drawing digitally.

Usually I use pencil, Ink, paper combo, then scan and touch ups in Photoshop, that's pretty much all I've ever used PS for, so today after admiring so many other animators, story artists and directors' digital doodles. I decided to join in drawing with photoshop. I had no idea what to draw, Miriam was kind enough to volunteer to be the theme of these tests. I have to say, this is the very first time i've enjoyed it!

I'll be uploading more this week, and hopefully each drawing will be a improvement.

Whew!
After months of no computer, no animating,no Flash, no Photoshop and no iTunes NOR Spotify! I return with a all brand spanking a monkey new awesome MacBook Pro! In fact, i've had the laptop for a week now, but no Adobe,
thankfully that's all changed and I'm rolling now.

I did this piece to commemorate my return to the digital realm, and also warm up drawing on a Wacom (I'm seriously rusty on this)

Thanks to my family for picking up most of the check . I got big plans for my new laptop, a new film, improve the blog by posting actual INTERESTING drawings, studies, ideas (good AND bad) comic work, and most importantly, updating showreels and portfolio for work applications and internships.

The rest of this year will involve very little rest!.

I know, I know, I posted this on my showreel blog, this blog is really only meant to be for doodles and stuff , but I'm excited about this ! and this test was more fun to do than waiting for ink to dry (which is how I spent my saturday night, no kidding).

Just a little test for the next Lil' And Christmas short I'll be working from just after I'm done

doing some stuff for Toby. I plan on setting this film in the 1950's. it's gonna be even shorter than the first film mainly because there will be vague backgrounds and it's in colour, I'm looking forward to see how this turns out !

Just finished reading the Darwyn Cooke adaptation of The Hunter based on the series of Parker books by Richard Stark ( Donald Westlake) I love the Lee Marvin film Point Blank which is based on the same material so I knew I was gonna love this book.

And I did love it ! The main character Parker is such an absolute ruthless bastard he amazes me! And Darwyn's artwork is brilliant and compliments the story so well, I can't wait till next year for the next Parker book.

I just did this doodle because Parker is once again one of my heroes (which is quite worrying, considering how he treats everyone).

Last week I went to The Constitution, a cool little pub in Camden, they have a free jazz/ska/reggae/blues jam session every wednesday for free, the musicians are vets, they've been all over the world playing for big acts, these dudes are on a whole other level, they really are amazing to watch. I thought it would be a cool opportunity to doodle real people again, it's literally been months since I've done that, so I'm quite naff again at the moment. Practice makes perfect !

My incredible friend Kris has got himself a brand new job as a a commercial airline pilot ! He's worked and struggled incredibly hard to achieve this and now it's paying him ! so off he goes to Indonesia to work and live, It's a brand new chapter for him and for us ("us" being the Purveyors , now it's a new place for us to have (mis)adventures!) to commemorate this amazing achievement I decided to do a very quick doodle as a little goodbye. I'm a fan of the anime series Tetsuwan Birdy: Decode, so I decided to try and draw Birdy Cephon in a descending to lay the smack down on someone pose. That punch is gonna hurt.

More Rough Storyboards: Getting Erased Sequence...

In one scene the main character comes across and befriends a group of rough concept versions of herself only for them to get violently erased before her eyes, the little rubber eraser bits in the storyboard are real, I just put sellotape over it, the tape and eraser bits made the storyboards look messy which I think added to the mayhem of the scene.

The lipstick mentioned at the bottom was used for masking on Flash, honestly.

Well, this here is as the title of this post suggests, is a storyboard excerpt for a scene that was never animated, I loved this bit so much, the idea of the main character trying to run away from the camera/audience/us only to run right back into it, and in frustration start hitting the screen with her fists. I can't exactly remember why it didn't make it to the animation process, but I definitely will use it on my next film.
